21"H 8" Shade Diameter
Edition of 25. The graceful, petite, turned and tapered conical shape of our Loblolly lamp is charred traditionally in a stove pipe of timber, raising the grain for a deep black color that still retains the documentation of the tree’s growth. A fortuitous remnant of un-charred golden pine underscores the juxtaposition between material and process. The base is paired with nickel fixtures and a Kentucky-made white linen drum shade.
The Charred Collection evolved from the traditional roots of ancient Japanese wood construction, which emphasized a need for rot and bug tolerance while maintaining a consistent structural integrity. Our burning process, based on this model, entails binding three boards into a chimney for a controlled burn over a small firebox. The resulting boards are wire brushed and receive multiple coats of a clear zero VOC, water based finish. This ensures their durability, functionality, and longevity as an elegant and unexpected addition to a space.
Our limited edition furniture is handcrafted from wood with unique stories, shared through traditional joinery and a considered modern aesthetic. Each numbered editions piece comes with a history of the tree and details of the design as well as a commissioned art print unique to each collection. We are proud to say a donation is made to the Arbor Day Foundation for each piece of furniture we build; these donations plant trees and support educational programs.
