Wood is a living material and evolves over time, regardless of if it has been cut, dried, planed, sanded and turned into an object for man’s attentions. It maintains a mind of its own. And we honor the wood by always embracing its identity as a tree. A single cut from the outside of a Cherry tree inspired this bench and that wood, bark and all, now forms the base of this piece. Raw bark on the underside versus smooth, hand carved seat; each with its own beauty. The solid Cherry frame and back rest are a balance of exposed and hidden joints, all traditionally hand cut and pinned with Black Walnut.
